DRUM HEALING

Drum healing is an integral of the Drum Spirit Medicine Journey. The vibrations from the drum have a deep, transformative effect on the body, bringing about profound and lasting changes. As a form of sound healing, it is undoubtedly one of the most accessible methods for groups to experience.

"Through the many tones, pitches, and harmonics of the drum, the shaman communes with the subtle and normally unseen energies of the spirit world. By changing and listening to the frequencies and overtones of the drum, the shaman is able to send messages to, and receive them from, both the spirit world and the patient." (Michael Drake)

The drum is an ancient tool used by our ancestors throughout time. It is not simply about 'making music' but more about understanding the subtle language of Spirit and learning to become fluent in this language. Everyone can benefit from 'tuning in' to the tones and harmonics of the medicine drum:

The word 'medicine' refers to the spiritual healing energy of the shamanic practitioner, hence the name 'medicine drum' for the frame drum that is used in our healing circles. Medicine, in this sense, comes from the 'medicine wheel' - which is created every time we meet together to do sacred healing work. The medicine wheel represents the sacred circle of life, its basic four directions, and the elements.

Drum healing is a very simple technique, using two distinct drum beats up and down the body - the important factor, however, is being able to be a pure channel for Spirit, allowing yourself to direct healing energy through your drum (and your voice). This kind of spiritual sound healing is very powerful and needs to be practiced with humility and an open heart.
